Bertha Mae “Crook” Chapman, 86, of Calhoun, Georgia entered the presence of her Lord, and savior Jesus Christ, during the early hours on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
She was born in Gordon County, Georgia on January 24, 1940, the daughter of the late Columbus and Odell Hamrick Crook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Kenneth Chapman, Sr, son, Kenny Chapman, sisters Nell (Egan) Perry, Ella Ree Crook, and Elaine Walraven, and sister-in-law, Annette Crook.
She enjoyed working outside in the garden, canning the various vegetables that she harvested, sewing, crocheting, quilting, crafting, and writing poetry. She adored her family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna (Greg) Samples, and Denise Brookshire; daughter-in-law, Vickie Chapman; grandchildren, Kimberly (Todd Holt) Chapman, Ken (Cassie) Chapman. Shannon Brookshire, Rachel Brookshire, Ethan (Magen) Samples, and Sam Presley; great grandchildren Rebecca Lambert, Kevin Lambert, Mallorie Samples, and Lucus Chapman; brother, James Crook, and special niece, Barbara Jean Jones.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jamie Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Rev. Jether Cochran officiating. Pallbearers serving will include Sam Presley, Robert Paris, Ken Chapman, Ethan Samples, Dusty Jones, and Greg Samples. Honorary pallbearers will include members of “Helping Hands” Sunday School Class, Louie McEntyre, Jack and Geneva Bibb, Allen Johnson, Jimmy Fox, and Kirk Jarrett.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 28th at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home between the hours of 10:00 AM until the funeral hour of 1:00 PM.
The family is very thankful for your prayers, your thoughts, and every act of kindness shown to them. Flowers will be accepted, but no house plants please.
