Barbara Grace Highfield

Barbara Grace (Couch) Highfield died on Sunday, February 18th, 2024, at her residence in the Sugar Valley, GA, area. Mrs. Highfield was born on November 17th, 1935, to the Late Jack A. Couch and Mildred O. Roghelia in Rome, GA. She was preceded in death by her late Husband, Benjamin D. Highfield Sr.; sons, Rufus E. (Butch) Highfield and Joseph P. Highfield; grandson, David M. Skidmore; Siblings, Charles T. Couch, Bernice Clark, and Geraldine Williams.

Mrs. Highfield was survived by her children, Benjamin D. Highfield Jr and his wife Anne, Nancy O. Skidmore and her husband Dennis, Sidney T. Highfield and his wife Catherine; Siblings, Dyanne Busby, Margie Christy and Buddy Couch; Daughter-in-Law, Lynn Highfield; Grandchildren, Daniel E. Skidmore, Nathaniel J. Skidmore and his wife Amber, Ellie Denman and her husband John, Amanda Highfield, Heather Highfield, Seth Highfield, Evan Lingerfelt, Therin Highfield; and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Mrs. Highfield was a longtime resident of Gordon County, GA, who enjoyed reading, sewing, baking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Among her previous occupations were Switchboard Operator and Truck Driver. 

Mrs. Highfield spent her last years with her family in Sugar Valley, GA, under the care of Mrs. Theresa Bailey-Welch. 

Per request and instruction by Mrs. Highfield, no funeral service will be held. Mrs. Highfield’s ashes will be interred at Chandler Cemetery in Calhoun, GA, alongside her husband, Donald and son, Butch.
