William Ralph Smith

July 5, 1928 — August 18, 2015

Mr. William Ralph Smith, 87 of Calhoun, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Calhoun Health Care following several years of declining health. He was born in Cherokee County, AL on July 5, 1928, son of the late William Reed and Gladys Loveless Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scotty Smith.

Mr. Smith was a retired truck driver with ABF.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Doris Faye Richerson Smith; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Regina Smith; a daughter, Cheryl Waters; a daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Holcomb Smith, all of Calhoun; a sister-in-law, Blanche Smith of Cedar Bluff, AL; grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Nicole Joyce, Kelli Waters, and Angela Waters, all of Calhoun; a step-granddaughter, Andrea Burris of Calhoun; and great-grandchildren, Aalysa, Lana, and Whitney Watson, Wyatt Bradshaw, and Carson and Hayden Burris. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. William Ralph Smith will be held Saturday, August 22nd at 4:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with the Chaplain of Transitions Hospice, Rev. Tim Baird, officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the staffs of Calhoun Health Care and Transitions Hospice.

The Smith family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2:00 PM until the service hour.

The family would like to thank their friends and extended family of Calhoun Health Care and Transitions Hospice for their special care of Mr. Smith.

Flowers will be omitted, but memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 922 East Morris Street, Dalton, GA 30721, or The American Cancer Society, 200 W. Emery St. STE 3, Dalton, GA 30720.
