Mr. Tom Roye, Jr., 88 of Calhoun, died Friday, January 29, 2016 at Gordon Health Care following several years of declining health. He was born in Alabama on September 11, 1927, son of the late Tom Roye, Sr. and the late Myrtle Green Roye. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Gowens, Bessie Roye, Lula Gowens, and Frances Carpenter; and brothers-in-law, Andrew Gowens and Rev. Gay Grizzle.

Mr. Roye was a longtime employee of Echota Cotton Mills (later known as Mt. Vernon). As a young man, he loved to play his guitar and sing with his family at area churches. He was of the Baptist faith.

He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Irene Garrett Roye; his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Gwen Roye of Calhoun; a sister, Maureen Grizzle of Calhoun; and grandchildren, Amaris Roye of Birmingham, Alabama, and Joshua Roye of Washington, DC.

Services to honor the life of Mr. Tom Roye, Jr. will be held Monday, February 1st at 2:00 PM from Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Jamie Hunt and Rev. Clinton Green officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Sam Grizzle, Jeff Grizzle, Tony Gowens, Tracy Gowens, Allen Blalock, Matt Silvers, Jimmy Brown, and Jeremy Silvers. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Carpenter, Edward Gowens, and Harvey Gowens.

The Roye family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 1st from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM.
