Obituary

Sue Hammett Sutherland, 86, of Sugar Valley, GA, died Monday, August 19, 2019 at her home, following a year of declining health. She was born in Greenville, SC on July 24, 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Ansel Crayton Sutherland; her son, Russell Sutherland; a brother, Donald Hammett; and a sister, Janice Compton.
Sue had been employed with the Gordon County Board of Education as a Para-pro at Belwood School for 20 years.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karon and Dwayne Kilpatrick; her grandchildren, Tara Green and her husband Billy, April and Christina Kilpatrick, and Brooke Whitfield; her great-grandchildren, Katlyne Green, Sophie Green, Libby Kilpatrick, Nora Kilpatrick, Channing Whitfield, and Harper Whitfield; her brothers, Robert Hammett, Teddy Hammett, and Zeke Hammett; and her sisters, Kay Siedenstricker and Roseann Gurley.
Services to honor her life will be held Thursday, August 22nd at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Tara Green and Dr. Jerry Rice officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 21st, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
