Martin Dewitt "M.D." Casey

March 13, 1933 — March 27, 2023

Mr. Martin Dewitt "M.D." Casey, 90, known by most as M.D., passed away on Monday, March, 27, 2023 at the Fountains in Calhoun.


M.D. was born in Oakman, Georgia on March 13, 1933, the son of the late Dewey Casey and Emma Irene Glass Casey. He was an Honor graduate of Red Bud School and earned his degree as Master Machinist at Smith-Hughes Vocational Technical College in Atlanta, Georgia. He was inducted into the United States Army on June 16, 1953 and was honorably discharged on May 13, 1955. He served during the Korean War and received the National Defense Service Metal and Good Conduct Medal. After his military service was completed, he worked at in Civil Service at the Atlanta General Depot for four years and after that, he and his late wife, Rhelda, owned and operated M.D. Casey Grading Inc. for 34 years. After retirement, M.D. did not slow down, helping many individuals and churches with their building and grading projects, including his home church, Trinity Baptist Church, and went on several mission trips in North America. He was the happiest when he was doing something for someone in need or doing his Lord’s work. He had served on the Georgia Farm Bureau Board of Directors and was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a Deacon as well as other positions where he was needed.


In addition to his loving wife Rhelda Gee Casey, he was proceeded in death by a two sisters, Joyce Casey Smith and Ruby Casey Smith; brothers-in-law, Ken Smith, E.J. Gee and Jimmy Gee; foster son, Lee Roy Wilson.

Survivors include two sisters, Linda Smith, and Sandy (Allen) Davis; one brother, Rev. Winford (Virginia) Casey; sisters-in law, Jeanette Gee and Barbara Gee; brothers-in-law, Rembert Smith and Glenn Smith; Foster son, Yancey Wilson; his adopted family, Anita Russell, Caitlin Russell and her husband Jeff Forman and their children, Sara and Anderson Forman; a host of nieces and nephews who he loved dearly and other relatives.


The funeral service for Mr. Martin Dewitt “M.D. Casey will be held Thursday, March 30th at 1:00 PM from Trinity Baptist Church with Bro. Roy Chadwick and Bro. Eddie Brannon officiating. Greg Gallman and Tyler Reynolds will provide music. His body will be laid to rest beside his loving wife, Rhelda at Gordon Memorial Gardens.


Pallbearers serving will include nephews, Mickey Smith, Scott Smith, Keith Smith, Roger Smith, Todd Davis, and Donald Casey. Honorary pallbearers will include, Deacons and Deacons Emeritus of Trinity Baptist Church, The Senior Adult Sunday School Class, Chad Brumlow, Jim Franklin, D.C. Kinman, Ronnie Fox, Tommy Bevil, Yancey Wilson, Rembert Smith, Glenn Smith, Alan Davis, Chad Davis, and Sam Thomas.


The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 29th at the funeral home between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

His body will be placed in state at Trinity Baptist Church on Thursday, March 30th at 12:00 Noon until the service hour of 1:00 PM.

Box 1254, Calhoun, Georgia 30703 or the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries, 505 Water Works Road, Palmetto, GA 30268.
