June Evelyn Powers Young

June 4, 1938 — August 23, 2015

June Evelyn Powers Young, 77 of Calhoun, died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at her home. She was born in Gordon County on June 4, 1938, daughter of the late James and Janie Wilson Powers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Thad A. Young; a brother, Caleb Powers; a half-brother, Ernest Powers; and a sister, Pauline Waggoner.

Mrs. Young had been employed with Mohawk Industries for 26 years. She was a member of East Calhoun Church.

Survivors include the most loving son a mother could ever ask for, Randall T. Young of Calhoun; her grandchildren, Becky Cross and Sara Young; and her great-grandson, Ethan Davis. A special friend, Sue Counsel; nine nieces, and a host of great-nieces and nephews also survive.

She loved her grandchildren like her own. She was known as "Mama June" to them and many others.

Funeral services to honor the life of June Evelyn Powers Young will be held Saturday, August 29th at 1:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Pastor Keith Reid and Pastor Terry Timms officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Jonathan Timms, Dusty Waggoner, Kase Waggoner, Brett Talley, Joseph Hornyak, and Eddie Newsome. Ethan Davis will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The Young family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, August 28th from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
