Obituary

James Kemp Grogan, 80, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Calhoun, died Monday, June 24, 2019. He was born in Cumming, GA on June 11, 1939, son of the late Lamon and Clyde Grogan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Rupert Grogan, and Peggy Baldwin and her husband, Danny.
James joined the Army National Guard in 1956, and after a year, joined the United States Air Force, serving for 28 years. During his time in the Air Force, he earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees at the University of Maryland. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Hannelore Treichel. They were married on April 9, 1963. During their loving 56 year union, they had two children.
He loved traveling and spending time with his family. In the Air Force, James traveled all over the world. He served a year in Vietnam in 1969. He spent most of his career in weather communications, which led to many friendships around the world. Upon retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Government as a Civil Service employee for 24 years.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Hannelore Grogan, of Wiesbaden, Germany; his children, Anthony (Barbara Langston) Grogan of Jacksonville, FL, and Christina (Darryl) McGruder of Pittsburg, CA; his grandchildren, Alexandra McGruder, Bianca McGruder, and Ava McGruder, all of Pittsburg, and Ben Langston, Jon Grogan, and Angie Grogan, all of Jacksonville; his great-grandson, Josiah Pena, of Pittsburg, with one more coming; his siblings, Millie Whitfield of Bremen, Ray (Betty) Grogan, L.C.(Janie) Grogan, and Nancy (Jim) Luckett, all of Calhoun; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A service to celebrate the life of James Kemp Grogan will be held Wednesday, July 3rd at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 1:00 PM until the service hour.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home of Calhoun.
