Obituary

James E. Hales Jr (Jimmy or Turtle) was born in Dalton, Ga on September 21, 1974. He resided in Calhoun, Ga with his parents Ed and Linda Hales, and brothers Mike, Chris & Dale until 1983 when he moved with his parents to Malone, New York to work in volunteer missions. He made many life long friends while in New York and returned his senior year to graduate from Gordon Central High School. Jimmy married the love of his life, Tammy in April 1996, whom he spent 23 wonderful years with. They had three amazing children Alex, Ana & Ian. He also helped foster 2 other children Kaydence and Jayden. Recently he had been blessed with an amazing daughter in law to share that love with, Evelin Tomas Hales. He was also godfather to his best friends children, Austin and Annsley Tims. Jimmy took the role of father and godfather seriously. His desire was to have all of his friends and family serving God and being a part of everything God has for them. Jimmy and his family had so many blessings surrounding them.
Jimmy worked at OMC, Yanmar America, Dinamic, and Advanced Steel Technology where he worked in Production and Engineering Management until he became disabled. He cultivated many lifelong friendships during his time there.
Jimmy was involved in the first days of Rock Bridge Community Church and was known for the heart he had for people. He enjoyed working with the production team. He had compassion for others, either to pray for them or help them with an act of kindness. He always kept in mind that he was representing his God and church, whether or not he was in church. He read his bible regularly and had a constant prayer life throughout the day, praising God for all he was doing for him, and other times asking God for help and strength. Jimmy was a prayer warrior that placed his trust and faith in the Almighty.
He rarely did things for himself wanting to make sure his family was happy and healthy. He would do anything for his family. His last days were instructive. He taught us how to grow old with dignity, humor and kindness- and when the Good Lord finally called, how to meet Him with courage and with joy in the promise of what lies ahead. No matter what hardships and trials were before him, his words to all of us was "It will be all right". Jimmy was a genuinely optimistic man. And that optimism guides his children and made each of us believe that anything was possible. Jimmy is now with the Lord that he accepted when he was 5 years old at Salem Baptist Church.
The family asks that you spend time with your family, take a family vacation, precious are those memories, and make plans to further friendships lifelong and beyond, this is what Jimmy would have wanted.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Bell Hales; his son and daughter-in-law, US Army SP4 Taylor Alexander and Evelin Hales; his daughter, Ana Grace Hales; his mother, Linda Hales; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Pam Hales, Chris and Amy Hales, and Dale and Paige Hales; his father-in-law, David Bell; an honorary brother, Chris Burke; an honorary sister, Julie Boylan and her son Riley; sisters-in-law, Klarissa Turner and Jillian Cauvin (Jean); nieces and nephews, Kayla, Jamon, Kortni, Kelsey, Anissa, Lindsey, Kayla, Easton, Marlee, Makhai, Myra, and Izaak; aunts and uncles, Jan McHan, Sue and Jim Hitchcock, Jim and Carolyn Moore, Tom Moore, Polly Jones, and Earl Worley; great nieces and nephews, Jaxon, Hunter, Kimber, Blakely, Kasen, Bentley, and Jayden; and many cousins. Best friends, Donny Holmes (Amy) and their children, Gavin and Sadie, Joshua 'Juice' and Tina Tims, and their children, Austin and Annsley; and special friends, Genia Kirby, Lori Woodall, Shirley Woodall, and Dana Curtis, also survive.
Services to honor the life of Jimmy will be held Saturday, May 11th, at 1:00 PM from Rock Bridge Community Church. Burial will follow in Campbell Cemetery. His cousins will serve as pallbearers. His small group from Rock Bridge Community Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, May 10th, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
