James Alvin Wilson

Mr. James Alvin Wilson, Jr., age 78 of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Redmond Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on August 4, 1928, son of the late James A. Wilson, Sr. and Janie Turner Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a retired textile worker with Crown Craft Mills, and was a member of the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church. He served his country in the US Army in the years 1951 through 1956.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Lee Chastain Wilson, a son, Johnny Wilson, grandson, Jamie Parker, a brother, Granville Wilson, and a sister, Sue Mae Trotter.

Survivors include a son; James W. (Jimmy) Wilson and his wife Carol; two daughters; Sandra Allen and her husband Tony, and Vickey Hamsley and her husband Carley, all of Calhoun; a brother; Winford Wilson of Rome; and a sister, Faye Hobgood of Fairmount. Ten grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. James Alvin Wilson, Jr., will be conducted Friday, May 18, at 2:00pm from the Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church, with Rev. Harold Owens and Rev. Ronnie Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and will include Billy Wilson, Michael Wilson, Jason Parker, Cain Allen, Bodey Holbert, Kenny Hackney, and Wayne Wilson. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers and will include Haley and Hunter Parker, Trent Holbert, Gabe Hackney, Gage Hackney, Josh Allen, Brodey Allen, Cheyenne Allen, Carol Ann Crump, Alotin Tomlin, Christan Tomlin, Noah Wilson, Justin Wilson, and Ethan Wilson. Great-grandchildren will also serve as honorary pallbearers and will include Brook Lynn Allen, MaKayla Hall, McKenzie Hall, and Macee Hall.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday after 5:00pm. Online condolences may be sent and the guestbook signed at www.maxbrannonandsons.com.
