Iula Wilson Long

January 23, 1922 — March 27, 2017

Iula Wilson Long, 95, of Sugar Valley died at her home on Monday, March 27, 2017, following several months of declining health. Iula was born in Henagar, Alabama on January 23, 1922; she was the daughter of the late O.H. and Elda Wilson. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Marion Albert Long Sr.; her son, Lavon Long; her six brothers and three sisters. A homemaker, Iula was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in White, Georgia. She treasured the times when her whole family was together; she was an avid quilter, loved canning, and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Elda Iula and Michael Hasty, Mary Lois and Clifton Gazaway, Marion Raymond and Nancy Kathryn Long, Marion Albert Long Jr., Norma Deloris and Clyde Mahaffey, and Laura Sue and Russel Gatrel; her daughter-in-law, Connie Burnette Long; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The Long family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Russell Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Rick Langston and Rev. Bill Thornton will officiate. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
