Irene Mathis

Mrs. Martha Irene Mathis, 54 of Calhoun, died Thursday, January 21, 2016 at her home. She was born on June 14, 1961, daughter of the late James Earl and Martha Ann Parker Mansell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kirk Patrick Mathis in 2008.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, James Lewis Mathis; sons, William Wylie Mathis and Lee Johnson; daughters-in-law, Margaret Fagans Mathis and Jamie Mathis, all of Calhoun; a brother, Floyd Mansell of Sheffield, AL; sisters, Elizabeth Warren and Bonita K. Star of Alabama; grandchildren, Samuel Lewis Mathis, Dominic Rich, and Will Rich; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joe and Kathy Mathis, Kenny and Frankie Wilson, David Mathis, and Carolyn Brown; and uncles, Wimpy Parker and Billy Parker. Several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.

Services to honor the life of Mrs. Martha Irene Mathis will be held Sunday, January 24th at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Mitchell Gaston officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant UMC Cemetery. Active pallbearers include Johnny Brown, Chris Dixon, Jason Gentry, Donnie Taylor, Chris Thurman, and Casey Raines. Samuel Mathis will serve as honorary pallbearer.

The Mathis family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, January 23rd from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
