Erwin Williams

Mr. Erwin Williams, 87 of Calhoun, died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Gordon Hospital. He was born in Gordon County on July 6, 1927, son of the late Ernest W. and Amelia Roberson Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie Jo Williams on September 4, 2012; a son, Renia Erwin Williams on June 4, 2012; a brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Ruby Williams; a sister, Geneva Charvatt; and a brother-in-law, E.C. Hill.

During his lifetime, Mr. Williams was employed with Kern's Bread and Georgia Textiles, retiring from White Crest Carpets. After retirement, he was a substitute school bus driver for Gordon County Schools. He was a Mason and a Shriner, belonging to Sonora Lodge #221 of F&AM, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and the Yaarab Temple Shrine. He held a 50 year Apron from the Grand Lodge of Georgia, and had been awarded the Yaarab Temple Crown of Honor. Mr. Williams was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

He leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Donna Blair Williams; a daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Lamar Hicks; sisters, Ruth Hill, Elsie Williams, and Barbara Cornette and her husband Gene; and a daughter-in-law, Vickie Williams, all of Calhoun. Seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild also survive.

Services to honor the life of Mr. Erwin Williams will be held Tuesday, April 28th at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Walter Hare and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Pallbearers serving will include Scotty Bryant, Phillip Lanier, Denmon Lanier, Wade Russell, Steve Dillard, and Wade Baldwin.

The Williams family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Honoring Mr. Williams's request, flowers will be omitted and memorial donations made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, 1577 NE Expressway, Suite A, Atlanta, GA 30329. Donation forms will be available at the funeral home, or can be made online at http://www.choa.org/Support-Childrens.
