Emmett Alvin Young

Mr. Emmett Alvin Young, 84, of Calhoun, died Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Floyd Medical Center, following a recent illness. He was born in Worth County, GA, on September 29, 1933, son of the late Emmett Primes Young and Letha May Whittington Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Young. Emmett was a member of New Town Baptist Church. He worked in the carpet industry, having retired from Mohawk Industries where he was a supervisor. He enjoyed being outdoors, tending to his garden, and cherished spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Christine White Young, to whom he was married for 59 years on December 12th; his sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Rhonda Young, and Jeff and Lana Young, all of Calhoun; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Brooks of Norman Park, GA, Betty Busbin of Okeechobee, FL, Jeanette (Bobby) Braswell of Pansey, AL, Ann Howard of Moultrie, GA, and Carolyn (Emmett) Edwards of Leesburg, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey Young of Sylvester, GA, Rex (Earnestine) Young of Doerun, GA, and Jimmy (Gail) Young of Doerun, GA; grandchildren, Nicole Young, Justin Young, Hannah Young, and Alexis Young and fiance, Garrett Saylors.
Services to honor the life of Emmett Alvin Young will be held Wednesday, December 27th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev(s) Gary Quarles and Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery, with Rev. Randy Davis conducting the committal service. Military honors will be accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard. Pallbearers will include Justin Young, Garrett Saylors, Alan Collier, Dwight Fuller, Don Saylors, and Tim Watson.
The Young family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 26th from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
