Betty Stewart

December 19, 1933 — January 31, 2023

Ms. Betty Stewart joined others of her family on January 31, 2023, in her heavenly home surrounded by her family. She was born on December 19, 1933, in Gordon County to the late Olen and Mamie Bohannon Hayes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, George “Chet” Stewart; brothers and sister-in-law, George (Carolyn) Hayes and Billy Hayes; sons-in-law, Dwyatte York and Wayne McFarland; special friend, Richard Head.

For the past twenty-five years, she has been the matriarch of our family by gently, graciously, leading, and encouraging family members of all ages. She was also our family historian knowing the birthdays, anniversaries, and special events important to our family.  Betty was an outstanding cook and was willing to teach our younger family members her secret tips for success.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda York and Faye McFarland; sisters and brother-in-law, Nan (Billy) Barnette and Marjorie Tolbert; grandchildren, Stuart York, Jason (Katie) McFarland, and Daren (Carley) McFarland; great grandson, Zane McFarland; sister-in-law, Dovie Hayes; special cousin, Marcia Parker; special friend, Harold Brock; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives also survive.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
