Amogene Blackstock

January 25, 1935 — December 22, 2017

Alice Amogene Blackstock, 82, of Calhoun, died Friday, December 22, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Gordon County on January 25, 1935, daughter of the late Ralph and Beulah Cornett Dutton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard Blackstock; and a brother, Lane Dutton. Amogene was a graduate of Red Bud High School, where she excelled in basketball. She was a member of New Town Baptist Church. Amogene worked at Sears in Calhoun for many years. She was a member of the Gordon County Board of Education for twenty years; Amogene was instrumental in the building of Gordon Central High School, and in the refurbishment and updating of each school facility. She was a determined woman whose mission was to make sure that the staff of each school had the tools that they needed to ensure that every student in Gordon County received a quality education. Amogene loved to bowl, she enjoyed cooking, and was an avid reader. She treasured the many hours she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; of her many accomplishments, it was her family that gave her the most pride. They will lovingly remember the impact that she made in their lives.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Penny Blackstock; her daughters and son-in-law, Lisa Davis, and Julie and Vann Harmon; her brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Annette Dutton; her sister, Glenda Latham; grandchildren, Autumn (Ryan) Gibson, Wendy (Chad) Trundle, Cherith (Adam) Locklear, Charity (Miker) Arrivillaga, Crystal (Chad) Sumner, Coley Davis, Gabe Harmon, Cooper Harmon, and Lily Harmon; and great-grandchildren, Anna Gibson, Ethan Gibson, Ashlyn Trundle, Brayson Trundle, Caylon Trundle, Kade Locklear, KyLee Locklear, Tristan Arrivillaga, Everly Arrivillaga, Abram Sumner, Maddie Sumner, and Jax Sumner.
