Mrs. Rosa Corn Shope, 96, of Salisbury, NC, formerly of Gordon County, GA, died Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Trinity Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury. She was born in Gilmer County, GA on March 7, 1921, daughter of the late Jasper Coleman Corn and the late Lula Moss Corn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Grady Shope in December, 1988; her daughter, Joyce Shope Kent; and brothers and sisters, Jim Corn, Dan Corn, Carmon Corn, J.H. Corn, Gladys Corn Silvers, Onnie Corn Summey, and Hazel Corn Elliott.
During her lifetime, Mrs. Shope worked in the textile industry, and was a restaurant owner. She was of the Church of God faith.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James and Pat Shope of Calhoun, GA; her son-in-law, Max Kent, Sr. of Salisbury, NC; sisters, Ida Corn Johnson and Bonnie Corn Shope; grandchildren, Max Kent, Jr. (Leslie), Mimi Joiner (Ray), Amy Kluttz (Mike), Courtney Alderman (Josh), Kelly Shope (Dana), Jamie Shope (Andrea), and Shanna Lawhon (Alex); great-grandchildren, Janna Kent, Jax Kent, Jillian Harrell, Cole Harrell, Dillian Kluttz, McKayla Kluttz, Ava Alderman, Easton Alderman, Ashten Shope, Tucker Shope, Hannah Shope, Catherine Shope, Josie Shope, Lauren Thomas, and Alex Lawhon II (Nicole); and great-great grandchildren, Gracelyn Thomas, Josiah Thomas, Brayden Wimpy, and Bentley Wimpy.
Services to honor the life of Mrs. Rosa Corn Shope will be held Thursday, August 10th at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Dr. James Shope and other family members officiating. Interment will follow in Crane Eater Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Kelly Shope, Jamie Shope, Max Kent, Jr., Ray Joiner, Mike Kluttz, Josh Alderman, and Alex Lawhon. Honorary pallbearers are great-grandsons and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 9th from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
